Beginnings of Mischief – a little bit of info!
A frame from his first half-page strip in black and white, dated March 1951. Dennis represented the arrival of the first of the core, mischievous kid characters who saw Beano overtake The Dandy to become Britain's most popular comic.
Despite being his debut appearance, Dennis doesn’t actually say a single word in his first comic – as opposed to his Dad, who has had enough of Dennis’s antics already, having shouted “DENNIS!” in the previous 3 panels and eventually using the dog lead to drag Dennis from the park! I think we can all agree, Dennis certainly doesn’t have a problem finding his words these days! Drawn by David Law.
